Conservative Treatment for Pain

Before employing medication or interventional techniques, it is important to try conservative treatment including physical therapy, TENS and exercise.

RICE

TENS
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator is used to improve pain relief in a number of painful conditions, and may allow reductions in medication usage and improved movement.
A TENS box sends an electrical signal via leads to one or two pairs of electrodes placed on the skin near the painful area.
Modern TENS electrodes are self-adhesive and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Settings on the TENS machine can be altered to change the frequency, wavelength and waveform pattern, in order to find the best electrical pattern for the individual patient.

Transcutaneous Spinal Electroanalgesia is electrical pulses delivered at regular intervals to the spine to relieve pain.

Exercise
Activity can be a great way to ease chronic pain with a supervised exerise program. We also offer supervised exersice as part of Physical Rehabilitation Therapy.
